Health Care Costs

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is committed to provide quality healthcare to all people in our region who are in need of services, without regard to their ability to pay. Our patient representatives share information and work with patients to empower them to make informed decisions.

It is important to remember pricing is complex as it includes many factors, such as:

  • Healthcare is personalized to your needs. A wide range of services, including medications and diagnostic testing, can be used to best treat you. This may include treating any unknown condition that may arise during your care.
    • One visit or stay may present multiple charges from different professionals or entities.
    • One type of service can vary and therefore have different types of charges. For example, a CT scan can be done with contrast and without contrast, depending on your condition and what the provider orders.
  • Level of healthcare service, such as inpatient, outpatient, same day surgery, clinic visits, diagnostic testing, etc.
  • Insurance coverage
    • Your insurance plan: Reimbursement to Prairie Lakes varies from patient to patient as payments are mandated by a variety of entities like insurance companies, commercial health plans, and government payors like Medicare and Medicaid.
    • Your coinsurance/deductible.
    • Whether a provider is in your insurer’s network.
    • Services covered by your insurer.
    • Bundled prices of particular services.
  • Co-pay, deductible, and co-Insurance are due at time of service.

We strive to provide the information you need to make an informed decision regarding your healthcare; at the same time, we ask for understand that all of the prior factors combined make specific advance pricing information difficult to provide to patients. Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is providing good-faith cost estimates and cannot guarantee what you will be charged. The standard charge amounts reflect an average and what each patient actually pays may differ.  If you would like to discuss price estimates, you may call our patient representative at 605-882-7601.

Diagnostic Services for Reflux

Upper Endoscopy or EGD

If needed, general surgeons use an EGD test to examine the lining of the esophagus, the stomach, and first part of the small intestine. The procedure is performed with an endoscope, a tiny video camera mounted on the end of a long, flexible fiber-optic tube. The EGD results will determine the next course of treatment.

What is the specialist looking for? The EGD helps your specialist investigate the cause of symptoms such as heartburn, anemia, abdominal pain, swallowing problems, persistent nausea, black stools and digestion problems. In real time, we can see and often treat the problems revealed during the EGD.

Bravo pH Monitoring

A Bravo capsule is typically placed during an EGD. The capsule is temporarily attached to the wall of the esophagus and measures the pH levels and transmits the information wirelessly to a recorder. The test will finish after 48 - 96 hours and the recorder is returned to Prairie Lakes so that the data may be downloaded and analysed by our specialists. This convenient test allows for precise evaluation of your symptoms.

Manometry

Our ManoScan™ ESO high-resolution manometry system aids in the detection of disorders in the esophagus, like difficulty swallowing, regurgitation, and heart burn. The manometry system can take high-resolution images during a short procedure time. The images are transferred to a report for review and interpretation by your specialist.

Car Seat Safety

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System believes that protection in a car should begin with a newborn's first ride home from the hospital.

Infant Car Seat Program

To encourage proper use of child safety seats, Prairie Lakes Healthcare System offers car seat education. Trained staff teach all aspects of safety related to car seats for infants and children. In this interactive session you will receive instructions on securing an infant as well as features of the infant car seat.

This individualized instruction will be followed by proper installation of the car seat in your vehicle. Our staff will check the installation for accuracy and assist you with any necessary corrections. The session provides one hour of instruction to help you make the best choices related to car seat safety as your child grows. Upon completion of the class you will feel comfortable taking your baby home from the hospital safely.

For more information or to register please call 605-882-7735.

Car Seat Checks

Car seat checks provide an opportunity to have your infant or toddler car seat checked by trained staff. You will be given an appointment time and should arrive with your seat already installed in your vehicle. Staff will check the seat and have you make any necessary changes to the installation of the seat. For more information or to schedule an appointment please call 605-882-7735.
