During the holiday season, it's important to remember that you have the freedom to enjoy your meals in a way that feels right for you. Here are some suggestions for a balanced approach to holiday feasting:

  • Don’t skip meals the day before an event revolving around food.
  • Don’t skip breakfast the morning of.
  • You don’t need to “earn” your food or “compensate” for the food you eat.
  • Don’t pass on the protein. Include lean proteins in snacks and meals to help balance blood sugars throughout the day.
  • Enjoy whole wheat grain products to increase the fiber to ensure fullness and satisfaction.
  • Make your plate colorful by adding a variety of fruits and vegetables to your plate.
  • Enjoy your holiday plates with mindful portion sizes by using smaller plates or bowls. This allows you to enjoy every bite and appreciate the flavors without worrying about overindulging.
  • Trust your hunger and fullness cues.
  • Get moving. Take a pre-meal walk or run, or organize a post-meal activity, hike or game.
