October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is here for you, and all the women in your life, especially this October as we support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The CDC reports that each year approximately 270,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer and 42,000 do not survive the disease.

Early detection is key!

For many women mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it’s much easier to treat, thus improving the chances of survival. The American Cancer Society  (ACS) has reported that breast cancer death rates declined by 42% since 1989 due mainly to improvements in early detection and treatments. In addition, according to the ACS, when breast cancer is caught early, in its localized stage, 5-year survival rate is 99%.
