Yoga is a great exercise for many reasons, but a recent study shows it can lower blood pressure and drop bad cholesterol.
The research shows that doing the downward dog could be almost as good as biking and walking. The study found that doing yoga lowered cholesterol, blood pressure and other cardiovascular risks. This type of exercise is great for older people as it is not hard on their joints and is easily tolerated.
Dr. Larry Phillips, a cardiologist at NYU Langone Medical Center states that “with yoga and the relaxation and behavior modification that goes along with it, there is a benefit to all patients, but especially those with heart disease”.
Researchers studied over 2,000 different patients and conducted many controlled trials all leading to the same conclusion, yoga help with many different cardiovascular risk factors.
Just another reason to practice yoga!
